From kysu@bdc.com.tw Sat Mar 8 13:29:45 1997 From: KYSU Subject: FW: Mandarin Text-to-Speech on WWW Date: Sat, 8 Mar 1997 13:27:02 +0800 ---------- From: Chilin Shih Sent: Saturday, March 8, 1997 8:10 AM To: kysu@bdc.com.tw Subject: Mandarin Text-to-Speech on WWW We are pleased to announce the opening of a WWW site for the Bell Labs Mandarin text-to-speech system. Our English and German text-to-speech systems are also available at the same site. The interactive demo pages for Mandarin Chinese are http://www.bell-labs.com/project/tts/mandarin.html http://www.bell-labs.com/project/tts/mandarin-gb.html for big5 coded text (typically traditional characters) and GB coded text (typically simplified characters), respectively. A few notes on alternative input methods: You can paste Chinese text in big5 or GB into the respective pages. The system also accepts ascii input in pinyin, which must be followed by tone numbers 0-4, no capitalization at the beginning of a phrase, and the umlaut u is always represented by capitcal U, e.g., yU2 for "fish", xUan3 for "select", lU4 for "green", and lu4 for "road". Otherwise the letter sequence will be read as English letters or sometimes English words. Your feed back are most welcome.
